Future of electric scooters: The IoT SIM from Vodafone connects our scooters

For our second generation of products, we used all of our in-house know-how to independently design a new type of scooter for the future. However, there are some key functions where we continue to rely on the experience of world-class partners. Right at the forefront: the connectivity of the new unu Scooter!

Thanks to the global IoT SIM card from Vodafone, our unu scooters are part of the so-called "Internet of Things" for the first time and are also networked with it. To be more precise, our second product generation is equipped with smart features that enable new forms of urban mobility: With the help of the smartphone and the unu app, the digital key of the unu scooter can be easily shared with friends and family.
The app also shows the location of the scooter and the battery status. The digital theft protection protects the scooter and informs owners about illegal movements of their scooter - these can then be reported directly to the police. Since all of our processes, from logistics to customer service, were set up digitally from the start, networking our scooters was the next logical step: "We chose Vodafone because their IoT solutions are compelling and their network is international,” says co-founder and CEO Pascal Blum.
The reliable and globally well-developed mobile network from Vodafone ensures that the unu scooters are always online when needed. For this purpose, the IoT SIM was permanently implemented in the telematics box of our e-scooters - the so-called unu brain. In addition to the intelligent features, the SIM card also expands the essential functions of the scooter, for example, by switching it on and off from a distance. With a SIM card on two wheels, the unu Scooter becomes the perfect electric companion for the whole family,” says Vodafone CEO Hannes Ametsreiter.

What makes the unu an electric scooter of the future?

The smart features of the unu scooter can be activated optionally and free of charge by the customer and are automatically expanded and updated over time thanks to over-the-air updates.
