The future of e-mobility: will we all soon be cruising around on electric scooters?

Even if electronic driving still sounds like a dream of the future for some people and there are still widespread concerns about range and charging stations, many road users have already switched to e-mobility. In figures: In 2021, 13.6 percent of new registrations in Germany were purely electric cars. 12.4 percent were plug-in hybrids that can drive short distances electrically. Clear progress, because in 2019 these two drive types together only accounted for 3.1 percent.

The CO2 fleet limit of 95 grams of CO2 per kilometer per car has been in force in the EU since 2020. It is forcing manufacturers to focus more on electric cars. In 2020, the share of electric cars (BEV and PHEV) in the car population in Germany was around 1.2 percent. According to the forecast, the share will grow to 24.4 percent by 2030. That would correspond to an absolute number of around 11.55 million vehicles.

In short: the number of electric cars is constantly increasing – and will probably continue to do so in the future. This not only increases the range of the batteries. There are also subsidies and grants for e-mobility – for cars nationwide. For e-scooters, on the other hand, they often go to municipalities or through cities. The charging station infrastructure is also being continuously expanded, at least in urban areas. The old federal government launched the tender for the so-called "Germany network" last November: With the help of an investment of billions, around 900 new fast charging stations with around 8,000 charging points are to be built nationwide.

Fortunately, this point does not apply to electric scooters. Because the batteries from unu can be conveniently charged at home or in the office. So you are completely independent of charging stations and can simply enjoy a relaxed driving experience in the city. And speaking of "relaxed". An electric scooter has the additional advantage that traffic jams and looking for a parking space are a thing of the past. This is beneficial for the environment and for your nerves. And the range of e-scooters is also quite far, contrary to popular belief. At least if you focus on quality: You can travel 50 kilometers with an unu scooter and one battery. And in case you have planned another trip, you can also use a second battery and cruise a total of 100 kilometers.
